Heat Pumps: The Pathway To Whole Home Electrification

Sustainability Affordability Reliability

Why Electrify

It's no secret that energy costs are climbing. The cost of home heating oil, propane and natural gas are all steadily rising. We also know that there is a large push to curve greenhouse gas emissions world wide. By electrifying your homes, you are taking an aggressive step to combat both rising energy costs and reducing your emissions.

The Process

The process of whole home electrification may seem intimidating at first. When we start down the path towards electrification we're all told at one point or another that heat pumps don't work in cold climates. In reality, this cannot be further from the truth. In fact, we are proud to say that over 95% of our projects in the year 2021 have been whole home electrification projects. The key to a successful electrification project is planning. Though not required, it's good to start with weatherization upgrades like insulation. By starting here, Comfort Craftsmen Mechanical is able to install a smaller, less expensive heat pump system and elevate your home comfort.

Success

A successful electrification project results in reduced, or even eliminated utility bills, a significant reduction in your homes carbon footprint, and best of all, drastically improved home comfort. Heat pumps come in various sizes and shapes, and in many instances can re use your existing radiators, baseboards and duct systems. Let us help you down your journey to electrification by installing the right heat pump for your home and budget.

How Can We Help?

With decades of experience working with heat pumps, the experts at Comfort Craftsmen Mechanical have the know how to guide you along your journey to decarbonizing and electrifying your home. We represent the finest heat pump lines available for year round comfort in cold climates like ours. In fact, we can install heat pumps capable of providing heating in outdoor temperatures as low as -22 degrees!

What Are Heat Pumps?

To understand what a heat pump is, we need to have a basic understanding of what an air conditioning system does. If you were to go outside on a hot day and put your hand over the fan on your central air conditioning system, you would notice that the air coming out of that fan is hot, typically 20-30 degrees warmer than the outdoor temperature. The reason this happens is because your air conditioning system is actually absorbing the heat that makes you uncomfortable in your home and moving it outside where it doesn't bother anyone.

Heat pumps take advantage of this principle but reverse the operation. Heat pumps are equipped with a special valve in the outdoor unit that reverses the flow of heat through the system. This valve allows a heat pump system to keep your home cool and comfortable all summer long just like an air conditioning system would but with the added advantage of being able to reverse flow during the winter and efficiently warm your home for much, if not all of the winter.

Air-To-Water & High Velocity Heat Pumps

Air-to-Water heat pumps are an innovative way to approach high efficiency heating and cooling. These systems work by heating or cooling water that is then pumped to radiators, baseboards, air handlers or mini splits to heat and cool your home. These systems provide excellent heating performance down to -22 degrees outside. Spacepak heat pumps are an ideal way to integrate high efficiency heat pumps into historic homes utilizing cast iron radiators as well as modern homes where ductwork isn't feasible and ductless systems would create an unwanted visual detraction.

Samsung VRF Mini Splits

Samsung VRF mini-split systems are so much more than conventional mini splits. VRF stands for variable refrigerant flow and is how these systems can create such efficiency. Samsung VRF systems provide exceptional heating performance down to -13 degrees. These systems offer incredible flexibility with the ability to connect up to 10 indoor units to a single outdoor unit and creative solutions for integrating the indoor units into your home's style. Samsung has option for recessed ceiling cassettes, wall hung units, floor standing units, and several styles of ducted units.

Ecoer Central Heat Pumps

Ecoer central heat pumps represent an innovative and cost-effective solution for replacing an existing carbon based forced air furnace. These systems offer excellent heating performance down to -22 degrees and offer industry leading dehumidification. These variable speed heat pumps are not only extremely efficient but also offer improved comfort over your existing carbon based furnace because the variable speed nature of these units creates longer run times and more even temperatures throughout the home.

Mass Save Rebates & Finanancing

Because our goals of improving home comfort while reducing energy consumption and saving money on utility bills align so perfectly, Comfort Craftsmen Mechanical has partnered with Mass Save to offer up to $10,000 in rebates for the installation of high efficiency heat pump systems! You may also qualify for a 0% interest loan for 7 years to pay for your project.

Why Heat Pumps?

Heat Pumps are an excellent alternative for families that heat their home with high cost fossil fuels. With the extreme efficiencies of modern heat pump systems, often as high as 300-400%, these systems are a great way for take control of your utility costs while reducing and often eliminating your carbon footprint all together. Heat pumps work of of electricity, which is the only energy source that you can create on your own.

Is your existing heating system in good condition? That's great! Heat pumps can still improve the comfort in your home. Because heat pumps come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes and are so incredibly efficient to operate, they are an outstanding way of adding just a little extra heating or cooling to those areas of your home that have never been quite comfortable.
